synopsis

Video installation developed within the "Tale of two cities" seminar,
created in collaboration with the Cinescatti archive and produced by Lab80 (Bergamo)
for the restitution events of Bergamo and Brescia Capitals of Culture 2023.

The film reflects on the concept and popularity of the beach,
as a place that represents a culture and a country,
with the help of archive materials from private families
who documented their holidays
on Italian coasts from the 40s to the 80s.
The short film is played in loop on a small screen inside a real vintage beach cabin
with white and green stripes where the visitor can enter and watch it with headphones
and then leave a message regarding the beach or the sea:
a memory, a song, anything connected to what the video shows.
The written messages of the people who enter the cabin
finally create a "Little Seaside Atlas" for the posterity to see and read.
